Growing up With Death
A Visual Memoir
When I first saw this photo, I was happy it existed. This was taken at the pool club we belong to in Riverdale. My father must have taken the photo. We look happy. She looks happy. I think motherhood agreed with her. I have the playful smile on my face, and my brother is all dimples.
One day I looked at this photo again and there I saw it, I saw something I’ve been longing to see, to confirm; I saw love. I saw that we were connected; that my hand was curled around her finger.
